Environmental friendliness and gaining an emotional response from the user with COE365.
Environmentally friendly product development is an important theme for us as a stationery manufacturer that deals in many plastic products. Noting that Generation Z, the main customer base for stationery, has a strong interest in the SDGs, we launched a new brand, COE365, as "eco stationery linking Generation Z and the SDGs." We focused on the popular Generation Z term "emoi (emotional)" and developed "emoi" illustrations and a concept that played on the ecological specifications of using less plastic and using recycled plastic to create the term "emology."Our product development was based on the concept that users would "contribute to the environment via items they like." In addition to switching from plastic to paper boxes for the packaging, we launched a correction tape with a new mechanism in a paper case, a product that uses 40% less plastic. (→P.41) We also created lineups of PENTEL CO., LTD. and Nippon Notebook Corporation products, and developed stationery for everyday use that shares a unified world view. The products were extensively placed on the sales floors of major chain stores, and sales are good.
The brand website features content that the user can "experience," such as stories connected with the product illustrations. Access peaked at 4,000 views a day. I believe there are many junior high and high school students whose first purchase with their pocket money was stationery. We aim to gain an emotional response from the user with our slogan "eco in the palm of your hand," and to make them more aware of "eco" as part of their daily lives.
